The Statistics Law stipulates that statistical institutions and statisticians should keep confidential what they know in statistical work.

State secrets, business secrets and personal information that are known shall be kept confidential.

Statistical methods:

This Law is formulated in order to scientifically and effectively organize statistical work, ensure the truthfulness, accuracy, completeness and timeliness of statistical data, and give full play to the important role of statistics in understanding national conditions and national strength, serving economic and social development and promoting socialist modernization.

This Law shall apply to statistical activities organized and implemented by people's governments at all levels, statistical agencies of people's governments at or above the county level and relevant departments. The basic task of statistics is to investigate and analyze economic and social development, provide statistical data and suggestions, and exercise statistical supervision.

The state establishes a centralized and unified statistical system and implements a statistical management system of unified leadership and graded responsibility.

The State Council and local people's governments at all levels and relevant departments should strengthen the organization and leadership of statistical work and provide necessary guarantee for statistical work.

The state strengthens scientific research on statistics, improves the scientific statistical index system, constantly improves statistical investigation methods and enhances the scientific nature of statistics. The state has planned to strengthen the construction of statistical informatization and promote the modernization of statistical information collection, processing, transmission, sharing and storage technology and statistical database system.
