What is the difference between HPV and cervical scraping?
The purpose of cervical scraping and TCT is to screen for cervical cancer.
Cervical scraping is a more traditional screening method for cervical cancer. That is, cervical epithelial cells are obtained through the scraping. The scraping is then applied on a glass slice. The doctor fixes the slice on 95% alcohol and sends it to a pathologist for further examination.
During the examination, the pathologist makes a pathological diagnosis based on cell nuclear morphology, structural abnormalities and changes in the pulp. This is the earliest method for screening cervical cancer and is called Pap cytology.
The reason why cervical scraping is less used at present is that its missed diagnosis rate is high.
The reasons for missed diagnosis are: 1. When the doctor takes the film, he uses a tongue depressor to scratch it, so that fewer cells are taken; 2. After the doctor takes the cells, he often squeezes out many cells when smearing it on the glass slide.
Pressure, deformation, or many cells are thrown away with the scraper during smearing. Therefore, when taking a cervical Pap smear, the amount of cells taken is not enough and the cell deformation rate is high, so the missed diagnosis rate is high, that is, the diagnostic accuracy rate
not tall.
Therefore, liquid-based cytology examination, namely TCT examination, was introduced in the early 1990s.
Compared with traditional cervical scraping Pap smears, TCT examination has significantly improved specimen satisfaction and the detection rate of abnormal cervical cells.
In TCT examination, a cervical cell brush is used to scrape cervical cells. More than 90% of the scraped cells are fixed in the specimen bottle, so more cells are collected than in a conventional Pap smear, and the doctor has a higher accuracy when reading the film.
Conventional Pap smears often result in blurred specimens due to factors such as blood and mucus when taken, and there are detection errors. TCT examinations have fewer errors than conventional Pap smears, which can significantly increase the detection rate of cancerous cells and correspondingly reduce the need for
The number of repeated Pap smears reduces patients' unnecessary worries caused by frequent tests, and the corresponding cost is reduced.
For early cervical cancer screening, liquid-based cytology is now mostly used, allowing patients to detect cervical lesions earlier and more timely.
