The Development of Buddhist Culture in Dunhuang

Dunhuang is the meeting point of various cultures, where China, Indian, Greek and Islamic cultures meet.

Dunhuang is an artistic palace. Those murals and sculptures from the 4th century to 1 1 century have brought people a very strong artistic feeling. Dunhuang is also a treasure house of documents. In these tens of thousands of red axis yellow scrolls, there are rich literature resources, including Chinese, ancient Tibetan, Uighur, Khotan, Qiuci, Suthep, Sanskrit and so on. The content involves politics, economy, military affairs, philosophy, religion, literature, nationality, folklore, language, history, science and technology and other fields.

Lunar calendar1May 26th, 900, a memorable day, this cave of Tibetan scriptures was discovered in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and those ancient documents filled the whole grottoes impressively. As a result, a worldwide discipline-"Dunhuang studies" came into being.

19 10, the remaining documents stolen from the Dunhuang scriptures cave were transported to Shi Jing Library (now the predecessor of the National Library). Today, it has been a whole hundred years since the discovery of the Sutra Cave. As the unit with the largest collection of Dunhuang suicide notes in the world, the National Library of China has made important contributions to the development of Dunhuang studies with its rich collections.

The National Library of China and the Dunhuang Turpan Society of China held a special literature exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the discovery of the Dunhuang Tibetan Sutra Cave, aiming at revealing the spread history of the Dunhuang suicide note, showing its elegance and connotation, and introducing the protection and research status of the Dunhuang suicide note. This is of great significance to carry forward Chinese national culture, promote world cultural exchanges and integration, and promote the study of Dunhuang studies; It is of great historical and practical significance to effectively protect and make full use of Dunhuang cultural heritage, promote the development of western cultural undertakings, and stimulate the patriotic enthusiasm and national pride of the public.
