What material is better for sculpture?

According to the different materials used, sculpture can be divided into clay sculpture, pottery sculpture, stone carving, wood carving and metal sculpture.

1, clay sculpture: Sculpture works are made of fine mud, sand, cotton, etc. After many dry repairs, a layer of cotton paper was pasted with glue, then a layer of white glue color was painted, and then various colors were required. Finally, a layer of oil was painted to maintain a colorful aesthetic feeling.

2. Pottery sculpture: made of refined clay, sculpted, painted with various glaze colors and fired indoors. There are many kinds of pottery sculptures, which are both practical and ornamental, and can be described as colorful.

3, stone carving: commonly used stone materials are granite, marble, bluestone, sandstone and so on. Stone is the main material of large-scale memorial sculpture because of its solid content and weathering resistance. Large-scale stone carvings, including the Mount Rushmore National Monument in the United States, the Leshan Giant Buddha in China, and the Longmen Grottoes in Yungang, are all carved from stone, and have a strong sense of construction and quality through carving.

4. Wood carving: Wood carving is not suitable for permanent large-scale outdoor sculpture, because the material itself is simply shrinking, expanding, cracking, deforming, decaying and moth-eaten. Generally, they are mostly small indoor sculptures. The composition of woodcarving is generally limited to the periphery of logs, and the natural shapes of trees are selected for comparison. Because less materials are used, natural hobbies can be lost. Commonly used materials are nanmu, ebony, pear, poplar, camphor, longan and so on. Make use of the natural modeling and beautiful texture of materials to create fresh and pleasing works.

5. Metal sculpture: It is made of copper, iron, stainless steel and other metal materials by casting, hammering and tailor-welding. Generally, it is easy to make large-scale permanent statues.
