According to historical records in China, Tibetans belonged to a branch of the Western Qiang nationality in the Han Dynasty and originated from an agricultural tribe in the middle of the Yarlung Zangbo River basin. In China, it is mainly distributed in Xizang Autonomous Region, Qinghai and western Sichuan, Diqing in Yunnan and Gannan in Gansu.
