Zhang Wenjiang in Zhang Wenjiang: Mr. Pan Yuting's Juexue
It was not until the beginning of 1986 that I realized that what Teacher Pan said was the treasure of national culture, the oldest knowledge in China and the freshest knowledge in China. -Zhang Wenjiang, I am an alumnus of East China Normal University, which is the legendary Grade 7, 7 and 8. Grade 77 and Grade 78 are enrolled in the same year, grade 77 is in spring and grade 78 is in summer. At that time, students loved reading and met with the ideological emancipation movement. There are many records in this field, which are still insignificant to me. I studied in East China Normal University for seven years, and the luckiest thing I met was Shi Zhecun, a teacher of Chinese Department, when I was about to graduate, and later became his graduate student. Secondly, when the graduate students are about to graduate, I met Mr. from the Institute of Ancient Books, and then read Yi with him. Especially the latter, there was a turning point in my life. In hindsight, the two teachers I met were almost all the best in humanities at East China Normal University. I was lucky to meet them all my life, but I was hazy at that time. Among the students at that time, I was barely a well-read person, and I was often proud of it. For example, Qian Zhongshu seems to be a household name now. However, in our time, it was said that only two people in the whole Chinese Department knew Qian Zhongshu: one was Wang Zhiliang, a teacher who taught Russian and Soviet literature. He translated Dickens' Our Friends and Pushkin's yevgeni onegin. Another student knows Qian Zhongshu, and that person should be me. However, this is the case. Going to Mr. Pan's lecture is unheard of and unheard of. Many books have never even heard of their titles. Of course, people who have read a certain degree have books that they have not read, but books that they have not heard are almost rare. But in Mr. Pan's place, there are many books that don't even know their titles. It's really unheard of and unheard of. 1984 1 1 went to teacher pan's place. After reading it, what I hear is brand new, and every day is brand new. At that time, I couldn't remember, I couldn't understand, I was hazy, and I only had some fragmentary notes. It was not until the beginning of 1986 that I realized that what Teacher Pan said was the treasure of national culture, the oldest knowledge in China and the freshest knowledge in China. At that time, there was a very popular book, Goethe's Conversations. I feel different from others after reading it. What are the contents worth remembering? Goethe is certainly a great writer in the world, but what he talks about is almost unimportant. I don't know whether to remember or talk about people. It takes a long time to see some key ideas. I can't help thinking, I heard better. So I began to consciously write down Mr. Pan's conversation. This is my own diary, which is the prototype of Mr. Pan Yuting's conversation. What I just said about Goethe's Conversations is not an objective evaluation of this book, but my real thoughts at that time, which may be completely wrong. My diary was sparse, dense and intermittent until Teacher Pan died. Diary mainly records academic content, and the protagonist is Mr. Pan Yuting. Although I wrote it carefully, I didn't consider publishing it. I wrote it down and put it aside without even reading it myself. It was not until many years later, in 2004, that I had a special feeling because of the difficulties I encountered in my life, so I decided to sort out this diary. With the help of a friend, I printed it down, printed the first draft for a year, and then revised it repeatedly, almost more than 20 times, before it was presented to you as it is today. This is a "talk with Mr Pan Yuting" in your hand. Looking back now, the time recorded in this book is almost seven years, from 1986 to 199 1 year, and 1985 was added in the addendum. It's been almost twelve years since the end of the record and the determination to sort it out, and it's been left aside, and no one has seen it except a few friends. I made up my mind to sort it out, and now it is in front of everyone, and it has been eight years before and after. Among them, there are many special opportunities and stories. These opportunities and stories are unforgettable to me personally, but they may not be worth mentioning to others, so I don't want to mention them. The special feature of the book "Conversation with Mr. Pan" is that Mr. Pan can't write it himself, and neither can I. This is formed by a special opportunity. This book is almost all-encompassing, and it doesn't look easy. It can be used as a mirror, from which you can see the reader himself-in fact, any book is like this, especially this book-no matter what you like, dislike, like and dislike, it is a portrayal of yourself and your mental state. Of course, it is undeniable that this book still has its shortcomings and deficiencies, and I hope that people who discuss this content will appear in the future. This book is rich in content and can be read in many ways. At first, I can list at least nine kinds, or even more: the first kind can be regarded as a data set similar to "pipe taper compilation" There are all kinds of contents here. At first glance, they are chaotic. If you pick them up carefully, you can get what you need. Second, it can be used as an ideological silhouette in the 1980s. The content of this book is a true record, involving profound academic content, which can be used to study the ideological situation in the 1980 s. Third, it can be regarded as a diary novel, which is read continuously and the story clues are vague. I use some writing skills in a controlled way, especially rhythm, phonology and breath, which may pop up inadvertently. Fourthly, it can be regarded as a modern experiment of record body, similar to Weibo body. Quotations are an early style, and The Analects of Confucius was formed by teachers and students talking about learning. China's traditional teaching method is to focus on the key points, instead of advocating long speeches. Weibo, whose word 140 is popular nowadays, is also very expressive. The former sentence and the latter sentence may or may not be related. It seems to be intermittent, but it illustrates a big problem. Fifth, it can be seen as the entrance to reading Mr. Pan's works. Because of Mr. Pan Yuting's profound knowledge, the society still knows little about this great scholar. He has published more than twelve books, but few people can read them all. To understand Mr. Pan's scholarship, this book can be used as one of the entrances. Reading Mr. Pan's works, in my opinion, can have five entrances: the first entrance, Zhouyi Biao Jie. This is from the perspective of Zhouyi to understand the eight diagrams, sixty-four hexagrams, Yuan Henry Zhen and other hexagrams, which is a traditional Yi-ology. The second entrance is a brief introduction to the history of the Book of Changes. This is not bound by traditional Confucian classics, and it is a new type of Yi-ology initiated by Mr. Pan. This book is the essence of Mr. Pan's thoughts in his later years. It can be read from a modern academic perspective, and the content is more difficult. The third entrance, starting with basic concepts, basic terms and basic historical facts, can be seen in Introduction to the History of the Book of Changes. This book was compiled by my search for remnants and will be published by Fudan University Press soon. The fourth entrance, the summary of Mr. Pan's academic thoughts, can be read in Academic Anthology. This book is an anthology, which summarizes the main aspects of Mr. Pan's scholarship. Published by Shanghai People's Publishing House, 20 1 1. The fifth entrance, starting from daily life and hermeneutics, is now the book Dialogue with Mr. Pan Yuting. This book is friendly and easy to read, decorated with many daily trivia, and provides many key backgrounds. Of course, this entry is still difficult, challenging people's intelligence. Teacher Pan has read eight of my diaries, and she always wanted me to take them out as soon as possible. At that time, the topic was still undecided. Now that the book is finally published, it has more or less realized her wish. Combining Mr. Pan's Conversation and Academic Collection, we can basically understand the image of Mr. Pan, at least in my mind. Sixth, this book can be regarded as a relatively pure entrance to China's scholarship under the world competition pattern. We are in the school of international relations, which is related to the overall pattern of world competition. Traditional Chinese studies or Confucianism, which are widely discussed now, still tend to resist the conservative level of foreign culture, not to mention the big pattern of world competition. The Book of Changes is the representative of China scholars who are constantly striving for self-improvement. It is the internal core value of the Chinese nation, dealing with the scene of competition, not just advocating benevolence, righteousness and morality. In the competitive world, relatively pure China scholarship-neither literature nor history, let alone philosophy-has such a powerful thing. Intellectually and academically, the Chinese nation can stand among the nations of the world, never inferior to any foreign nation, and can absorb the essence of other cultures, learn from each other's strengths and exchange needed goods. Seventh, as a document to study the cultural heritage from ancient times to the present. When we talk about ancient scholarship now, we often guess from textbooks, and there is no real inheritance. After reading Mr. Pan Yuting's Conversation, you will know that it is inextricably linked with authentic and examinable scholarship handed down from generation to generation. Mr. Pan has deep contacts with Tang, Xiong Shili, Xue and Yang Jianxing, and has contacts with many factions and figures. For example, when Mr. Pan gives a lecture, he also goes home to listen and speak. At that time, great intellectuals were well versed in arts and sciences, and Neo-Confucianism could also write the history of Zen in China. Mr. Pan is a pure scholar. He has contacts with many people, discusses knowledge with them, and is even entrusted by knowledge. Eighth, it can be used as an inspirational reading for people with certain purity to relax. You can read before going to bed, turn around, be inspired by truth, and even soothe your nerves. Ninth, it can also be used as a reference for people with lofty aspirations to practice, and even as a target for making mistakes: this book covers a wide range, involving Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in heaven and earth, but you don't have to believe it completely, and you can even find fault with it: First, the materials are wrong. Although Mr. Pan's level is very high, I carefully proofread it for more than 20 times-but it covers a wide range, so it is inevitable that there is no mistake. In fact, some have been found now, and I believe there will be more in the future. Second, the wrong of righteousness. I just discussed the way of talking with a friend, and what I said here and now can't be moved to that place. So be careful when you make mistakes. It's probably your own fault. This book is not necessarily about textbook common sense or dictionary definition, but a dialogue with real people, which played a very useful role at that time. There is a specific person next to each conversation, and a person with low level is listening. This person is me. Third, it's best to take a higher and upward path after understanding this book, and then the responsibility of this book will be completed-it's hard to say, but I hope such people will appear. Of course, there are other ways to read this book. The above tips are only preliminary, and there may be mistakes in themselves. If you feel that you can't read at all, it is that this book is not suitable for you, and you should look for other books that suit you. If you can understand it and don't fully understand it, you can try to skip it. Mr. Pan didn't publish any books when he was alive. He was not well-known in East China Normal University before his death, nor was he well-known behind him. In recent years, some people who study hard in academia have known him more or less. Around 2000, I met some famous people in East China Normal University and asked them if they knew Mr. Pan. The answer is that there seems to be such a teacher. I have studied in East China Normal University for seven years myself, and I don't know Mr. Pan. He was unknown, even willing to be unknown. When we studied with Mr. Pan on 1984, his title was still associate professor, but his knowledge was really the best. When I was studying in college, I often discussed some life-like problems with my friends. Actually, I was ignorant at that time. At that time, even Schopenhauer's "The World as Will and Representation" was published, and we would be ecstatic to buy it. I have a friend named Song Jie, who often appears in this book. He is a lawyer now. We will exchange some books at any time and like to discuss some big issues that we don't understand, such as politics, life and society. Although the level is actually very low, but young and frivolous, we feel great. We are pure and discuss the problem seriously. The most wonderful idea we thought we came up with, when we met another friend, he said it was not unusual, and so on, it was easily cracked. We are surprised that we have worked hard and read a lot of books, which is not worth mentioning to this friend. Just like the online fight now, we are not as good as him in studying hard. Until the year of reform and opening up, he will go to Shenzhen to make a name for himself-he is a very good painter, and all his cartoons have won prizes. When I left, Song Jie and I went to see me off and we chatted together. I gave him one of my best books, Fifty Upanishads translated by Xu Fancheng. When we broke up that night, I remember it was about eleven o'clock in the evening. He said, don't bother. Let me introduce you. I didn't come up with what I said, but I heard what the teacher said. This man's name is Pan Yuting. He was in school before and never paid attention to it. After listening to his introduction, I went to Mr. Pan and saw a group of people there, most of whom went abroad later, and some of them were very famous in society. Then it's a brief encounter, every day is new, and even the notes are marked with exclamation marks. The idea of keeping notes came into being very late, in fact, it was not too late, after more than a year. I had already started to help Mr. Pan before this. I think this kind of juexue that ordinary people don't understand is very important to our nation. Teacher Pan mastered all the knowledge he could see at that time, not just one school-twenty years later, I rearranged the book and didn't feel much behind. From the traditional culture, there is something similar to induction. What you really think will come true one day, at least for me. We didn't understand it at the time, and there was such a coincidence. We are pure and have no other distractions, but this incident, I believe, has changed my life. I have been sorting out Mr. Pan's manuscripts for twenty years. Mr. Pan has published almost twelve books, but few people in academic circles have read them. It doesn't matter. I left it to the person who wanted to see it, and my responsibility was completed. These eight diaries are academic in nature, and some personal things have been deleted in moderation. China's academic and daily life are not divorced, but I intentionally keep some other contents. For example, writing about the fire in Shanghai Conservatory of Music, if there is a record in the history of the school, it is called a true record that there really was a fire that day. ■ (Speech at the Symposium of School of International Relations, East China Normal University on the afternoon of March, 2065438+2004 12, compiled according to the shorthand draft)
