Advantages and disadvantages of gas phase liquid phase solid phase method
Vapor Phase Liquid Phase Solid Phase Advantages: High separation efficiency, fast analysis, low sample size and high detection sensitivity. Good selectivity, can be separated, analyze the constant boiling mixture, boiling point of similar substances, some isotopes, cis and trans isomers neighboring, inter, para isomers, spin isomers.
Gas phase method liquid phase method solid phase method disadvantages: high cost of analysis, the price of liquid chromatography and routine maintenance costs are expensive, the analysis time is generally longer than the gas phase.
Detectors
Gas chromatography can be used in a variety of detectors, the most commonly used flame ionization detector (FID) and thermal conductivity detector (TCD). Both of these detectors are sensitive to a wide range of analyte components and can determine a wide range of concentrations at the same time.TCD is universal in nature and can be used to detect any substance except the carrier gas (as long as their thermal conductivity is different from that of the carrier gas at the temperature at which the detector detects them), whereas FID is primarily sensitive to hydrocarbons.
