Hebei Weixian paper-cutting is the most famous, so what are the differences between paper-cutting in Weixian and other places?

Weixian paper-cutting originated in the Ming Dynasty, is a unique style, in the domestic and international reputation of traditional folk art. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the tools of paper-cutting in Weixian County were reformed, from "cutting" to "carving". in the early 20th century, Weixian County paper-cutting in the composition, modeling and coloring gradually formed its own unique artistic style, creating a unique folk paper-cutting new school.

The earliest paper-cutting in Weixian County can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. At that time, the paper-cutting was monochrome, not hollow, and the image was simple and crude (mainly used for embroidered shoe patterns, wedding and funeral auspicious objects, and window decorations at New Year's festivals, etc., so it was called "Window Flower"), and its style and technique had not yet formed its own characteristics.

Later, paper-cutting artists drew on the colors of New Year's paintings and shadows to create colorful paper-cutting. As the windows in northern China were mostly covered with cotton paper, the light transmission was very poor, and this paper-cutting was pasted on it to block the light, so the paper-cutting artists created a better light transmission "Tianpi Liang", that is, the mica flakes collaged into a square and round block, and then fill in the color on the top of the brush strokes, and then the court side of the paper, a kind of paper-cutting pasted on the window.

In the 1930s, Uixian paper-cutting reached a new stage. A large number of folk artists, represented by Wang Lao Reward, redesigned and carved a large number of opera characters, while standardizing and transforming floral patterns, enriching paper-cutting tools, paper-cutting techniques and dyeing techniques.

Weixian paper cutting got rid of the stereotypes of the period of green, in the composition, modeling and color to form their own unique artistic style, reflecting the distinctive regional characteristics, creating a unique new school of folk paper cutting. Weiguo paper-cutting thus stepped into maturity.

In 1956, the People's Committee of Uixian County organized the scattered paper-cutting artists and opened the Uixian County Special Crafts Production Cooperative (i.e., Uixian County Paper-cutting Factory). Based on the inheritance of tradition, the artists cooperated in the design and production of traditional opera faces. The emergence of this variety of paper-cutting made traditional paper-cutting from a single paste window to the world, and contributed to a better understanding of Chinese culture for the people of the world.

After entering the 21st century, according to the objective requirements of the development of the new situation of the market economy of paper-cutting in Weixian County, very few artists carve windows again, but vigorously develop modern crafts paper-cutting. Wei County paper-cutting in the form of richer, appeared in the "double", "multi-frame" and for the exhibition of the "giant" and other forms.
