Why is Xujiahui called Xujiahui?
Xu Guangqi was a great scientist in the Ming Dynasty who had great influence in the history of science in China. He devoted his life to the research of astronomy, calendar, mathematics, water conservancy and agriculture, co-edited the Elements of Geometry with Matteo Ricci and wrote the Encyclopedia of Agriculture.
He once lived and worked in Shanghai, ran a farm at the intersection of Hongqiao Road, Puhuitang Road, Zhaojiabang Road and Huashan Road, engaged in agricultural scientific experiments and devoted himself to writing books. Since then, his descendants have lived in this area for a long time, so there is the origin of today's Shanghai "Xujiahui" place name.

Xujiahui Commercial Street in the suburbs is gradually formed with the rise of residential areas and the opening of trams. On the eve of liberation, there were 19 1 shops on Huashan Road. In the early days of liberation, some shops closed down due to operational difficulties.

By 1985, the shops in Xujiahui Commercial Street have accounted for 8% of the total number of regional commercial shops and 20% of sales and profits. The sales and profit per square meter of business area is about 3 times of the average commercial level in the whole region.
1989, with the construction of Shanghai rail transit 1 line, 23 shops in hengshan road and Huashan Road were demolished, and Tianyaoqiao Road (north of Nandan East Road) was built into Huilian Commercial Building with a business area of 9,300 square meters, which became an extension of Xujiahui Commercial Street. 174 shops in Xujiahui Commercial Street at the end of 990/kloc-0, 90 of which are concentrated in Huashan Road.
