Why is the national bird of France a rooster?

During the First World War, the rooster was regarded as a symbol of the French nation's resistance to the Prussian invasion. Since 1980s, gallic rooster has been regarded as the symbol of French football team and rugby team, which makes gallic rooster famous all over the world.
