What is a comic book?

Comic books are also called comic books, comic books, picture books, simplified books and doll books. Comic book is an ancient traditional art in China, which was finally formed after the popularization of printing in Song Dynasty. Telling stories and portraying characters with continuous pictures is a reading material suitable for all ages, with a wide range of topics and diverse contents.

China's comic books can be traced back to the stone reliefs in the Han Dynasty and Dunhuang murals in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Stories or biographies are depicted by continuous pictures. On the lacquer coffin of Mawangdui Han Tomb, there are many stories such as "Tubo eats snakes" and "sheep rides a flying crane". The murals of the Northern Wei Dynasty in Dunhuang murals in Mogao Grottoes include "Nine-colored Deer Bunsen", "Pigeon Pavilion" and other Buddhist Bunsen stories.

As an art form, comic strip integrates painting, literature and binding, and has its special artistry. Because this genre works directly face the general public, it has low requirements for readers' cultural level, wide influence, strong sense of the times and corresponding historical value for researchers.
