What is the proposition of Westernization Movement?
When the Westernization School set up modern industrial enterprises and organized coastal defense in China, it had to be controlled and restrained by imperialism in industrial technology, capital and even management. Therefore, it is inevitable to deepen imperialist control over China's politics, military affairs and economy to some extent. The fundamental purpose of the Westernization Movement was to save the Qing Dynasty and maintain the rule of the landlord class. However, the facts did not develop as they expected. China's fiasco in the Sino-Japanese War directly marked the bankruptcy of the Westernization Movement. The Westernization Movement did not make China rich and strong. However, a group of modern talents trained by Westernization School learned the advanced western bourgeois ideas and spread them further in China, which not only impacted the traditional feudal ideas, but also laid the ideological foundation for the later bourgeois activities in China.
