What's the difference between a novel and a storytelling?

1. novel: a literary genre that focuses on portraying characters and reflects social life through complete storylines and environmental descriptions. Character, plot and environment are the three elements of a novel. The plot generally includes four parts: beginning, development, climax and ending, and some also include prologue and ending. Environment includes natural environment and social environment. According to the length and capacity, it can be divided into novels, novellas, short stories and mini-novels (short stories). According to the performance content, it can be divided into science fiction, case-solving, legend, martial arts, romance, fan, official and so on. According to the system, it can be divided into chapter novels, diary novels, epistolary novels and autobiographical novels. According to language forms, it can be divided into classical Chinese novels and vernacular novels.

2. Storytelling, also known as storytelling, storytelling, commonly known as telling ancient times in Cantonese and other parts of Guangdong, is called old saying. It is an ancient traditional oral performance art form of Han nationality, which was popular in Song Dynasty. Storytellers all over the world tell people different stories in their mother tongue, so they are also part of dialect culture. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, storytelling was a person sitting behind a desk, holding a folding fan and waking up, and wearing a gown. By the middle of the 20th century, props such as tables, chairs, folding fans and awakening wood were no longer used, while standing, talking, performing and clothes were not so fixed. However, after China's reform and opening up, under the impact of electronic media and the promotion of Putonghua, the storytelling culture of some dialects has gradually declined and is on the verge of disappearing, but it still has its vitality.

3, the difference:

Fiction and storytelling belong to two different artistic concepts. Novel is a kind of language art, which gains aesthetic feeling and education by readers reading literary works and creating images. On the other hand, storytelling is a performing art, which makes the audience influenced and educated by art through the words and actions of storytelling actors. Therefore, novels and storytelling are two different art forms. Novels shape images, describe plots and reflect social life through language. Storytelling is to create images and reflect life through sound and modeling. Readers of novels should have certain cultural literacy, at least literacy; Storytellers and illiterate people can understand and appreciate it.

② Different ways of appreciation. Through human visual organs, the novel is associated with the plot described by language and characters, and obtains pleasure and education from it. This kind of appreciation is generally carried out by a single person, and it is rare for several people or even hundreds of people to read a novel at the same time. Even if two people sometimes enjoy the same novel at the same time, the speed at which two readers appreciate the novel and the associations they generate are quite different. Storytelling is to associate the plots and characters told by storytelling actors through human auditory organs, so as to obtain pleasure and education. Generally speaking, appreciation of storytelling is collective. Audiences range from two to hundreds or even millions, and enjoy a work at the same time (the audience of storytelling broadcast by TV stations reaches millions), and the appreciation speed of the audience is directly proportional to the explanation speed of storytelling actors.

(3) The plot description of the novel is straightforward, while the storytelling is carried out through the scorpion. Fiction requires telling stories with plasticity, while storytelling requires telling stories very strictly, and winning by "stories". Both novels and storytelling require the story to begin and end, which is the appreciation habit of the Han nationality. But when the novel expresses the story, it is described in the order of time or events. Although storytelling tells the same event and character, it is different from novels in showing the plot. It divides the whole story into several relatively independent "stories".

④ The basic element of storytelling is "button", and the setting of buttons in novels is not strict. There are some buttons in the story-telling beam, and the so-called "buttons" refer to gripping suspense. There are big buttons and small buttons. "Big Button" mainly tells stories and has a rigorous structure. Little Buttons is mainly about shaping characters.

⑤ Novels describe the characters comprehensively, while storytelling portrays the characters by "opening faces".

⑥ In the description of environment and scenery, novels can not be separated from the description of social environment and natural environment. Storytelling is just a simple description of the natural environment, which is called "bricklaying", which is to explain the background cooperation of the characters in the book. Such as cities, courtyards, cottage scenery and other places, the combination of scenery, people and plots makes people feel immersive. The novel also gives a complicated and detailed description of the social environment in which the characters live, but storytelling is often just a simple explanation, not a long and detailed description. The description of the natural environment is also very concise, and the writing environment is also displayed with the development of the plot.

All landowners language, storytelling also has different characteristics from novels:

Musicality of language.

B, using "overlapping sentences", that is, using a large number of parallel overlapping sentences to describe exaggeration to describe events or people. Parallelism is magnificent and powerful, which can render the atmosphere and infect the audience.

C. popularization and colloquialism of language.

D, the image sense of storytelling language. Both storytelling and novels need a sense of image, but storytelling is more demanding than novels. Because storytelling is an art of speaking and singing, it is impossible to attract the audience without a high sense of image.

The language of novels can be divided into character language and narrator language, and the language of storytelling can be divided into three categories: comment, expression and white. "Comment" refers to the evaluation of the characters' language behavior and thoughts in the book. "Table" refers to telling stories and introducing people's events in the speaker's tone. "White" refers to imitating the characters' words, sounds and smiles in the book. "Comment" is closely related to "table" and "white", that is, the story is combined with character description and evaluation.
