The mysterious Hindu cremation custom
"Chapi" is cremation, which is an important ceremony in Hinduism. People of any status are proud of being cremated. In particular, cremation can be held in front of the temple, which is the ultimate wish of believers. There is a stone bridge connecting the banks of the Bagmati River. On the right side of the bridge is the place where the royal nobles were cremated, and on the left side, funerals can be held for civilians.
When Nepalis hold cremation, there is not much sadness because they are indifferent to death. People are cremated immediately after death, and then the ashes are scattered into the river, so that the soul can leave the body and enter the sacred world.
Traditionally, the task of carrying the deceased to the crematorium should be undertaken by family members, but now most people have given it to specialized personnel. In India, people who specialize in funeral affairs are regarded as untouchables with the lowest caste status. Generally speaking, the funeral ceremony is very simple, but wealthy families may invite musicians to play in front and March in a vast procession.
Before cremation, the eldest son of the deceased had to walk around the body with an oil lamp three times, and the son of the deceased who had shaved in white lit the fire on the spot. When the cremation pyre is lit, the eldest son of the deceased must shave his hair, leaving only one in the back of his head, and then bathe himself in the river. After two or three hours of burning into ashes, it was directly sprinkled on the sacred river of Bagmati River, which means that the soul has left the body and gained freedom.
According to Hindu custom, people are cremated when they die. Except for four kinds of people who cannot be cremated, others including dignitaries are cremated. So what are these four kinds of people? It is understood that four kinds of people include children; Pregnant women; Blind flow without a fixed place; A coolie engaged in cremation.
The cremation process is basically like this: the hearse appears; Drag the dead out of the hearse; Lift it to the river; Put it on a long slate; Relatives of the deceased's family gathered around to express their grief; Crematorium staff cut the dead with blades and wrapped the dead with sheets or something; Take off the coat, trousers, underwear and underpants of the deceased in a more concealed way;
Throw the clothes taken off by the deceased into the river; Then cover the dead and lift them up; Lift it to the cremation platform; Relatives once again carried the stretcher of the deceased and circled around the cremation table to prepare for ignition; Put the deceased on the wooden shelf of the cremation table; Ignition; Burning; Rinse the burial platform repeatedly with water after burning; Finally, I think there is nothing left on the burial platform before entering the next one.
