Referring to the international unified classification standard of infectious diseases, combined with the actual situation of infectious diseases in China, 35 kinds of acute and chronic infectious diseases with high incidence, large epidemic area and serious harm are classified as infectious diseases managed according to law, which are classified into three categories according to their transmission mode, transmission speed and harm to human beings, and classified management is implemented in prevention, treatment, epidemic reporting, control and monitoring. The state treats patients and carriers of infectious diseases.

Class A infectious diseases are also called compulsory management infectious diseases, including plague and cholera.

Class B infectious diseases are also called strictly managed infectious diseases, including severe acute respiratory syndrome, viral hepatitis, bacterial and amebic dysentery, typhoid and paratyphoid, AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis, polio, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, scarlet fever, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, rabies, leptospirosis, brucellosis, anthrax, epidemic spots and endemic diseases.

Class C infectious diseases are also called monitoring and management infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, filariasis, echinococcosis, leprosy, influenza, mumps, rubella, neonatal tetanus, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, and infectious diarrhea except cholera, dysentery, typhoid and paratyphoid.
