The speed regulation of household electric fans is to reduce the speed by adjusting the voltage. There are two specific methods:

One is the inductance method: an inductance coil with a tap is connected in series in the motor circuit, and adjusting the tap is to adjust the inductance, so that the voltage at both ends of the motor changes, thus adjusting the speed. The reason for using inductance is that it does not consume electricity (reactive power is consumed, and the watt-hour meter does not display it), but it consumes electricity with resistance. This is old-fashioned.

At present, silicon controlled rectifier is mostly used to realize voltage regulation and speed regulation by changing the conduction angle of alternating current. Because of its small size, copper saving and low price, it is widely used now. Our commonly used dimming desk lamp also uses this method.
