Architectural characteristics of Shanhaiguan Guancheng

Most of the buildings in Shanhaiguan Guancheng are the characteristics of blue tiles and red columns in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

The main city of Shanhaiguan has a circumference of 4363.5 meters, a wall height of 14 meters and a thickness of 7 meters. It has dirt inside and bricks outside. The whole city is connected with the Great Wall of Wan Li, with the city as the gateway, forming the trend of "the Great Wall is connected with towns".

Shanhaiguan city is square in plane, with the Great Wall connected to the east side of the city wall, and the outer side of the city wall is made of blue bricks and filled with rammed earth. There are four city gates, called "Town East" in the east, "Yingen" in the west, "Wang Yang" in the south and "Weiyuan" in the north. There are three sluices, located in the southeast, southwest and northwest corners, to discharge the accumulated water in the city. The first pass in the world is the East Gate of Shanhaiguan City.

Shanhaiguan was called Guan Yu in ancient times, also known as Chongqing Pass, also known as Lulin Pass. It is named Shanhaiguan because it faces Yanshan Mountain in the north and Bohai Sea in the south. Shanhaiguan is a collection of the essence of the ancient Great Wall in China, and is known as "the first pass in the world".
