Traditional knife length

1 It's Shancheng Dao, also called Taidao, which is used by official PK, and the shorter one is used in melee.

Taidao is a kind of machete with large curvature, and its blade length is more than 2 feet (66cm) and less than 3 feet (about 1m). Among them, those below 2 feet are called Gotha, and those above 3 feet are called Taitai Dao (or Wild Taidao).

The samurai's sabre is long and short. If the long sabre is too big, it is still a sword, and the short sabre is a threat (Gotha). There is a difference in the use of these two swords. The long knife is the main weapon, and the threat is the backup weapon. Long Dao is only used when it is damaged, but not used at ordinary times. According to custom, before going out, a samurai will put a threat on his belt, then hold a knife in his right hand, go to the door and put on his shoes, and then put a knife on his belt. The knife is worn on the left waist, which is convenient for the right hand to pull out the knife. Except short knives, especially Metezashi short knives with armor. In addition, the samurai is proud of his sword, and it is considered impolite to bump into the scabbard of the samurai (which is why the Japanese walk to the left). Moreover, the sword is worn on the left side, so even if two warriors meet in a narrow alley, their scabbard will not touch each other. When a samurai visits someone's house, he will untie the knife at the entrance, then hold it in his right hand before entering the house. Entering the house with a knife in your left hand means that you can pull it out with your right hand at any time. This is a sign of distrust. Unless there is a reasonable reason (being left-handed), it will also be considered impolite.
