Yuxian has a long history and was called yu zhou in ancient times. It is one of the "Sixteen States" contested by Song and Liao Dynasties, and now it belongs to Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. Yuxian is a national historical and cultural city, with ancient houses, castles, theaters and old streets all over the county.

Yuxian cultural customs

1, Da Shuhuaxiu

Shu Hua is a traditional folk cultural activity of Han nationality in Wenquan Town, Yuxian County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. This unique ancient festival has a history of more than 300 years. Splash molten iron on the ancient city wall, forming thousands of sparks. The reason why it is called "tree flower" is because it is like a leafy canopy, as spectacular as setting off fireworks.

Later, the custom of "Big Shuhuaxiu" in the hot spring town of Lantern Festival has continued to this day. As an ancient skill, Great Shu Hua has become a "provincial intangible cultural heritage" in Hebei Province.

2. Yuxian paper-cutting

Yuxian paper-cut originated in Ming Dynasty. This paper-cut is not "cut" but "carved". It is made of thin rice paper, carved with a small sharp carving knife, and then dyed with bright and colorful colors. Its basic production process is: design modeling, sample fumigation, carving and dyeing.

On May 20th, 2006, this heritage was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. Yuxian paper-cutting is mainly based on "intaglio engraving" and "stippling", so there is a saying of "three division of labor and seven dyeing".
