What is the pick ink gauze lamp

Tick ink gauze lanterns, also known as palace lanterns, is an ancient traditional handicrafts, more than 300 years of history, Anhui Province, listed as one of the eight specialties of Anhui, the Qing dynasty during the Kangxi period by the Wuwei Cai Zhutian first.

Qing heyday when there are more than 30 folk yarn lamp workshop, passed down from generation to generation, after nearly a century of war, to the early days of the founding of new China, a lot of waste, all industry recovery. The government organized the folk craftsmen, set up the WUWEI Yarn Lantern Factory, its products in the National Arts and Crafts Exhibition.

Origin of WUWEI Yarn Lanterns

Legend has it that when Mi Fu was appointed as the military governor of WUWEI in the Northern Song Dynasty, he used his painting skills to paint figures, landscapes, dragons and phoenixes, flowers and other patterns on the walls of the lanterns, so as to have fun with the people. WUWEI Yarn Lanterns were developed on the basis of the popular "colored lanterns" of scotch-tied, papier-maché and dyed lanterns. The lanterns are made by integrating the arts of woodworking, carving, lacquering and painting, and are processed, molded, lacquered, painted and inked.

The frame is made of sandalwood or red tsubaki and decorated with dragon head, phoenix head, elephant trunk and tiger foot, the wall of the lamp is surrounded by gauze and silk, and painted with images of flowers, landscapes and figures, etc. Through the process of picking out the ink and eye-catching techniques, the eyes of the characters are blinking and vivid under the penetration of candlelight.
