What does dragon dance mean in China?
The Chinese nation is the most populous country in the world. As long as there are places where China people live in the world, they regard "dragons" as auspicious things. During festivals, congratulations, blessings, exorcism, worship of gods and temple fairs, there is the custom of dancing "dragons".
This is because "Dragon" is a totem worshipped by the Chinese nation for generations. In ancient times, China people regarded "dragon" as a magical thing, which could spread clouds and rain, eliminate disasters and reduce happiness. For thousands of years, people in China called themselves "descendants of dragons".
Dragon dance is a grand festival. No matter where you dance, you will get entertainment. Sometimes the Dragon Dance Team can have five or six banquets a day, which is called "Dragon for Wine". After the dragon dance, both ends will be burned and the dragon body will be sent back to the temple for use next year. Although the Lantern Festival began in the early Han Dynasty and flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties, the custom of "dragon dancing" is considered to be the legacy of "offering sacrifices to heaven" in the Yin and Zhou Dynasties. Dragons have appeared in historical documents for a long time. "Dragon dancing" includes "good weather, peaceful country and people", which means "praying for the New Year".
Dragon Lantern originated from the traditional dance in China and migrated to other parts of the world with immigrants from China. When dancing dragon lanterns, people who dance dragons are usually placed in the local Dragon King Temple. On the day of the Dragon Dance, with flags, gongs, drums and horns as the guide, the dragon body was invited out of the temple, connected to the dragon tail and held a closing ceremony.
