Traditional Culture Encyclopedia - Traditional virtues - Three common narrative perspectives
Three common narrative perspectives
1, omniscient perspective (zero perspective), narrator >; This character, that is, the narrator, knows more than any other character. He is fully aware and can't explain to the readers how he knows all this. As Wellek and Warren said in The Principles of Literature, "He can write in the third person and is an omniscient writer. This is undoubtedly a traditional and natural narrative mode. The author appears next to his work, just like a speaker accompanying a slide or documentary. "
2. Narrator = role, that is, the narrator knows as much as the role. The narrator only uses a character's feelings and consciousness to convey everything from the perspective of his vision, hearing and feeling. The narrator can't provide something that the characters don't know yet, and can't explain it in one way or another, such as "omniscient consciousness".
3. Narrator
Its most prominent feature and advantage is its dramatic and objective argument; The intuition and vividness of narrative make the works show charming artistic charm.
Narrative perspective
Narrative perspective, also called narrative focus, refers to a specific angle to observe and tell the content of a story with narrative language. The same event may show different faces from different angles and have different meanings to different people.
The characteristics of narrative perspective are usually determined by the narrator. Traditional narrative works mainly adopt the tone of bystander, that is, third-person narrative. There are many first-person narratives in recent narrative works. The relatively rare narrative perspective is the second person narrative. In addition to the above three perspectives, another important special case is to change the narrative of person and perspective. Generally speaking, there are four kinds of situations: third-person narrative, first-person narrative, second-person narrative and personal or perspective change narrative.
