Classification of surfactants
Anionic surfactant: a negatively charged group in the molecule, such as sodium dodecyl sulfate and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate.
Cationic surfactant: a group with positive charge in the molecule, such as cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and cetylpyridinium salt.
Non-ionic surfactant: there are no ionic groups in the molecule, such as octanol polyoxyethylene ether and dodecanol polyoxyethylene ether.
Amphoteric surfactant: The molecule contains both anionic and cationic groups, such as cetyl -N-(2- hydroxyethyl) -N- methyl -3- aminopropionic acid (Brij-58).
The above are the four categories of surfactants. Different types of surfactants have their own characteristics and advantages and disadvantages in different application fields.
