Origin of the surname Lu

According to history, part of the Lv surname from Anyang in present-day Henan Province northward came from the Gao surname.

The ancestor of the Lv family name is widely believed to be Jiang Boyi, an official in charge of ceremonies and order during the time of Emperor Shun, who was a descendant of Emperor Yan of the Shennong clan. Jiang Boyi initially helped Shun to take care of the tribes, and then, after Yu came to power, he became Yu's trusted adviser, and formed a marquisate, the State of Lv, in less than 70 miles of land, and became the first Marquis of the State of Lv.

Waiting until the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Lv Guo was still a vassal state, until the end of the Shang Dynasty, Lu Shang, a descendant of Bo Yi, assisted King Wen and King Wu of Zhou to ascend to the throne, and established the Zhou Dynasty, which was then feudalized in the camp known as the State of Qi, and then his son, Lv He, succeeded to the throne, and thus in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the ancient Lv Guo and the State of Qi **** existed for three hundred years, until the state of Lv was destroyed by the State of Chu, and although Lv's descendants established the South Yang Lv Kingdom, it was not a state that could be recognized as a vassal state. Although the descendants of Lv State established the Nanyang Lv State, they still took Lv as their surname in order to honor their former state, and eventually Jiang Boyi is also considered as the authentic founder of the Lv surname.

? From the surname Wei

During the Spring and Autumn Period, the Prince of Jin, Chong Er, fled the country with a follower called Wei Wu Zi, who had been very loyal to Chong Er, so when Chong Er returned to the state of Jin, he was awarded the post of a great doctor, and Wei Wu Zi's son, Wei Qi, was rewarded with two fiefs, namely, the land of Lv and the land of the Kitchen, which is why people called him Lv Qi, and the descendants adopted the surname Lv as the surname. So the descendants took Lv as their surname.

Originally from Minority Ethnic Groups

Like the origin of the surname Zhao, there are many people with the surname Lv from minority ethnic groups, especially in the period of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, who began a large-scale Sinicization after moving the capital city to Luoyang, and the compound surname of the Xianbei ethnic group, Shouting Lv, was changed to the surname Lv, and of course, many other ethnic groups, such as the Li, the Lai, and the Lv. Other ethnic groups, such as the Li, Mongols, Tujia, and Koreans, and most of them changed their surnames during the conversion activities.
