And because of the differences in playing skills of various instruments, as well as the differences in regions, nationalities, times and performers, wind instruments in national instrumental music have formed extremely rich playing skills in the long-term development process, with unique playing styles and genres.

1: Xiao

(1) The origin of Xiao:

During the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties, Xiao called the townships (Jiazhutou), which spread from the northwest Qiang area to the Central Plains. At first, there were only four pressing holes. In the Western Han Dynasty (77 BC-37 BC), a hole was added on the back, so there were five pressing holes. There were six pressure holes in Jin Dynasty, which were played in about 247 BC, similar to today's Xiao. In the Tang dynasty, there was a wind instrument called shakuhachi, which was similar in shape to today's Xiao.

(2) Xiao's composition:

Xiao is a bamboo wind instrument, which plays straight, with five holes in the front and one hole in the back, and a blowing hole in the upper end.

Xiao's voice is mellow and soft, which is used for accompaniment, ensemble and solo.

Bawu has a small volume and a narrow range, but its timbre is soft, which is often used for accompaniment and solo. Bawu is a musical instrument full of ethnic colors, which is often used to play lyrical and broad tones, and can also play skillful cadenzas. In the ensemble, the timbre of Bawu can be easily blended with other musical instruments.

Hulusi uses a half-gourd as a sound box. Three bamboo tubes with different lengths are inserted side by side at the lower end of the bamboo tube of the gourd, and copper tiles are embedded. The longer bamboo tube in the middle has seven holes. When playing, the thin end of the blowing gourd is pressed by the sound hole of the middle bamboo tube. While playing the melody, the left and right bamboo tubes simultaneously emit a fixed single tone to form harmony with the melody.
