What are the shortcomings and improvements in English teaching?
As a rural student, I deeply understand the problems existing in rural English teaching.
(1) The main reasons are the lack of qualified English teachers in primary schools, backward hardware facilities, weak teachers, and the need to improve their professional level and comprehensive quality; Poor students, poor foundation and large teaching classes; Insufficient teaching time, too many textbooks, poor exam results, etc. These problems have puzzled us for a long time and seriously hindered the development of English teaching.
(2) The low level of students' classroom participation is influenced by the surrounding specific environment and family education from childhood. Compared with urban children, rural primary school students tend to be more timid, talk less and dare not participate in language activities in class. No matter how many problems there are, in the final analysis, we should reflect on the situation of our teachers and students, reflect on our classroom teaching, improve our classroom teaching, and create distinctive classroom teaching, so as to fundamentally change the backwardness of rural English teaching.
(3) Monotonous classroom teaching mode, backward teaching methods, single classroom teaching mode and outdated teachers' teaching methods are common phenomena in English teaching in rural primary schools. Rural students learn English late and have poor conditions. To get out of the misunderstanding of English teaching in primary schools, we must first clarify the purpose of offering English courses in primary schools; There should be a good teaching staff; In teaching methods, we should cultivate students' initiative, interest and sense of accomplishment; To create the atmosphere of "language sense teaching", we must change the traditional teaching methods; We should have enough class hours to consolidate our memory; Attach importance to students' ideological and emotional education; It is necessary to adhere to the formative evaluation, supplemented by summative evaluation.
(D) Lack of English learning environment and atmosphere As we all know, language environment is a very important factor in language learning. When English is offered in primary schools, some students have lost interest in learning English from the beginning because of insufficient class hours, outdated teaching methods and weak teachers. Coupled with the low professional level of teachers and their own quality, students have taken a detour. They entered junior high school. On the contrary, students who teach English in primary schools do not get as good grades as those who don't. They have lost their freshness and interest in learning English. In addition, some wrong spelling habits (which are difficult to correct once formed) also have a negative impact on these students.
At present, the problems existing in English classes in rural primary schools must focus on the following aspects:
(1) Strengthen the training of English teachers in primary schools. One of the necessary conditions for offering English classes in primary schools is a qualified English teacher.
(2) Pay attention to the emotional communication between teachers and students to stimulate students' interest in learning English. English Curriculum Standard emphasizes that the task of English curriculum in basic education is to stimulate and cultivate students' interest in learning English, so that students can establish self-confidence, form good study habits and effective learning strategies, and develop autonomous learning ability and cooperative spirit.
(3) Promoting reasonable classroom teaching mode and advanced teaching methods "English Curriculum Standard" points out: "The overall goal of English curriculum in basic education stage is to cultivate students' comprehensive language use ability.
(D) Reasonable curriculum, make full use of high-quality curriculum resources. To successfully offer English classes in primary schools, four conditions must be met, namely, a reasonable curriculum, suitable teaching materials, qualified teachers and a good connection between primary schools and junior high schools.
English classroom teaching in primary schools is a whole system, and the process of learning and teaching in classroom teaching is also a multi-dimensional, multi-level and multi-factor complex system. The development of English classroom teaching in primary schools is also the development of classroom objectives, contents, methods, evaluation, classroom teaching scenarios, language and teaching skills. Primary school is a critical period for students' language development, and primary school English is an enlightenment education for most primary school students. In a sense, primary school English teachers who undertake initial teaching are more important than junior high school English teachers. Therefore, it is our primary school English teachers' responsibility to find out all kinds of problems existing in rural primary school English classroom teaching and explore practical countermeasures and methods according to the actual situation.
