Brandeis University, founded in 1948, is a private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Brandeis University was founded in 1948 by the American Jewish community and named after Louis Dembitz Brandeis, the first Jewish justice of the United States Supreme Court. At that time Jews, minorities and women faced discrimination in higher education. Brandeis aims to establish a nonsectarian research university focused on undergraduate education that welcomes talented faculty and students of all backgrounds and faiths.

Brandeis is ranked 44th in the 2023 U.S. News America's Best Colleges rankings. As of 2021, Brandeis has produced one Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and one Turing Award winner, and in October 2017, Brandeis Professors Michael Rosbash and Jeffrey C. Hall, who has been honorably retired, were honored with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their pioneering contributions to the theory of circadian rhythms.
