Red "immortality elixir" found in Sixth Dynasty brick tomb complex, is it real?
False. In the Nanjing Museum's underground warehouse, there is a box every day someone special care. The "treasure" collected in the box is from the excavation so far, never exhibited a magical pill, including many insiders of the museum, have not seen many people.
After laboratory tests and comparison of historical data found that the red pill is the legendary "immortality elixir", 1,600 years ago, it is quite surprising.
This batch of "immortality elixir" hidden in the box is only the size of a grain of rice, red and round. They would have looked much cuter than the pills from the 1980s that belonged to the South Vietnamese king, Zhao Zhen, and they were discovered a little earlier.
In 1965, archaeological excavators found them inside a round, lacquered box about 10 centimeters in diameter where the head of the owner of a large Eastern Jin dynasty tomb in Xiangshan, Nanjing.
The tomb's owner was the eldest daughter of Wang Bin, a man from the same family as Wang Xizhi, during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and was known by the character Danhu. But this noble lady seems to have been a "non-marrier". She died at the age of 58 and was buried on the right side of her parents' grave. According to the history, it is not a premature death, a great lady of the family should be buried with her husband, but buried with her parents, according to history, because she never married.
Lab tests show that the main ingredient of Danwan is mercury sulfide, a very toxic compound, of which the sulfur content of 13.0%, the mercury content of 60.9%, and the other about 26.1% of the ingredients is not yet clear for what.
Of course, if taken back to the lab now it should be possible to fully decipher all of its components. However, it can be confirmed that they are the "elixir of immortality" that was very popular during the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
From the tomb's epitaph, Wang Danhu died in the Eastern Jin Dynasty three years. It is said that this period is the refining of jin dan and the scholarly class advocating the "food" prevailed.
