In today's society, which is more needed, the rule of virtue or the rule of law (our legal system)? How should we ask each other?

The word "rule by virtue" was also proudly put forward in China, apparently to make excuses for the ineffective implementation of the rule of law and divert everyone's attention.

Law is the bottom line of morality. Due to poor law enforcement, it is common for our country to break the law now. In other words, many people's behavior and even their ideological level can't reach the moral level at all, so it's useless to tell them about morality.

Morality, even if it is useful to some people, cannot effectively maintain social order.

1. The moral scale is vague, and there is often no unified standard. People may make opposite judgments about whether the same thing is moral or not.

First of all, stakeholders will make their own judgments, which often distort morality.

Secondly, different social environments determine that people often make different judgments on the same thing.

2. The moral binding force is not enough. Immoral behavior is condemned at most, and it cannot effectively prevent the parties from continuing to do bad things.

Therefore, emphasizing the rule of virtue over the rule of law can only make the social order more chaotic.

In fact, it is the defect of "rule by virtue" that hinders social development, so people invented the law and society gradually moved towards the rule of law. Therefore, the rule of law is a sign that human beings are moving from barbarism to civilization and a trend of social development. Emphasizing that the rule of virtue is superior to the rule of law is obviously "reversing history", and this argument will soon be submerged in the torrent of history.
