What is beamforming

Beamforming

It is a combination of antenna technology and digital signal processing for the purpose of directional signal transmission or reception.

Beamforming, not a new term, is in fact a classic and traditional antenna technique. As early as the 1960s there were array signal processing techniques using antenna diversity reception, which were highly valued in electronic countermeasures, phased array radar, sonar and other communication equipment. Adaptive array interference zeroing technology based on digital beam forming (DBF) can improve the anti-jamming capability of radar systems, and is a key technology that must be used in new generation military radar. The localization communication system obtains sound field information through microphone arrays, and uses the principles of beamforming and power spectrum estimation to process the signals and determine the direction of incoming signals, so that the source can be accurately oriented.
