Why don't sculptures draw eyes?

Not all sculptures have no eyes. Usually, the figure sculptures in ancient Greece and Rome have no eyes. There are different opinions about the reasons. There is a saying that the sculpture itself has eyes, but because the eyes are inlaid with precious stones, it seems to have no eyes after being stolen. There is also a saying that this is to express the sculptor's artistic ideal, sculpting the face of a character with almost no expression, no eyes in his eyes and no color in his body, so as to express abstract proportion and pure form.
