Why are China's pinyin letters so closely related to English letters?

When the scheme of Chinese Pinyin was first formulated, Latin letters were used. English has been written in Latin letters for nearly a hundred years, and this habit began when the Romans entered the British Isles. Before that, English was written in an improved Greek alphabet called Rooney alphabet. So today's English and Chinese Pinyin are the same, because the phonetic system of Chinese Pinyin uses Latin letters. Latin alphabet is the most widely used word in the world. For example, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Vietnamese and Indonesian are all written by this system.
