What kind of opera is called "Xiang Opera" in southern Fujian Province?
The Xiang Opera, originally known as Gezai Opera, also known as Zidi Opera, originated in Zhangzhou. At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, Zheng Chenggong led his troops to recapture Taiwan, and brought to Taiwan the folk arts of "Gezai" (brocade song) and "Cheguoliang" that had been handed down in Zhangzhou, and combined them with local folk songs and ditties, which became widely popular in rural areas and fishing districts, and appeared in the form of "Gezaikan" (song). The "Singing House" appeared in the form of sitting and singing. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, due to the need to welcome the gods and races, the singing "Gezaikan" took to the square and appeared in the form of a costume parade, which was then called "Gezaijin". Since then, "Gezai array" absorbed the repertoire and performing arts of Liyuan Opera, Siping Opera and Chaoban, and performed in the rural valley, Temple Town, holding grass ropes and enclosing the ground, commonly known as "landing sweep". On New Year's Day, they also set up a theater tent to perform. Because it is developed from the "song", it is called "song" theater.
