"Chunshen Jun" and "Haikai Culture"
Shanghai was the fiefdom of Huang Xie, one of the four princes of the Warring States period, and the word "prince" here does not only mean a gentleman in our present sense, but also a prince and general. In the earliest days, "the mausoleum of Chunshenjun was used to channel the water into the river and the sea", which gave rise to the name "Huanghepu", which was renamed Huangpu River after the Ming Dynasty. The short name of Shanghai, "Shencheng", comes from this.
Chun Shenjun is the "originator" of the "sea culture". The development of Shanghai by Chunshenjun brought about a fusion of the Chu and Wu-Yue cultures. With the invasion of Western powers in the late Qing Dynasty, the penetration of Western culture, the collision of Chinese and Western culture intensified the formation of "sea culture" is different, more than 2,000 years ago, the Warring States period, is the development of "sea culture" to lay a deep foundation of an important period, Shanghai people in order to remember Chun Shenjun, built temples for him, naming the temple. In order to honor the memory of Chun Shen Jun, the people of Shanghai built a temple for him and named it "Chun Shen River", which also represents Shanghai with "Shen".
Haiyang culture is a unique cultural phenomenon in Shanghai, which is gradually formed on the basis of the traditional culture of Jiangnan in China (Wuyue culture), and the integration of modern industrial civilization from Europe and the United States, which has a profound impact on Shanghai after the opening of the port. Shanghai culture has both the classical and elegant culture of Jiangnan culture (Wuyue culture) and the modern and fashionable culture of an international metropolis. Distinguished from other cultures in China, it has a unique style that is open and self-contained. The Haiist culture, which is "inclusive of all rivers in the sea", is reflected in all aspects of Shanghai culture. Shanghai culture is to respect diversity, individuality, taking into account the interests of individuals and society, with the "spirit of contract" as the leading rational, easy-going, more mature business culture.
The importance of the Shanghai culture is self-evident. It is because of the "sea culture" of the "sea of rivers" bosom, Shanghai has become one of the international metropolis. Shanghai people's memorial to Chunshenjun is also for generations.
Located in Shanghai Jing'an District, Shanghai Fangbin Road, Shanghai's old City God Temple, was once the Jinshan Temple, the Ming Dynasty Yongle years was changed to the City God Temple, dedicated to the God of the land and Chunshenjun. Later, Taoism began to be worshipped here. Now, the God of Guan and the Goddess of Mercy are also among them, and the gods are living in peace and sharing the feasts of worship in the secular world. However, there is no sign of Chunshenjun's deity. It turns out that when the Japanese occupied Shanghai, the idol of Chun Shen Jun was destroyed.
Instead of remodeling the statue of Chunshenjun, the people of Shanghai used another way to honor the sage. In Chunshen Village, Xinqiao Town, Songjiang District, the Songjiang District re-expanded the Chunshen Jun Shrine in 2003. A set of huge bronze bas-reliefs vividly recreates the scene when Huang Xie led local residents to govern and dredge the Huangpu River. On the monument at both ends of the relief, there is an ode dedicated to Huang She by Songjiang District in commemoration of 1250 years since the establishment of Songjiang County: Chunshen ruled the water, and the Huangpu River was inundated with water. Lu Xun was crowned, Huating Zhaozhao .... ?
In September 2002, Shanghai's bid for the Expo was successful, and the first song at the celebratory party was "In Memoriam Chunshen Jun". Shanghai people's memory of the sage stretches on, but not deliberately publicized, rational and easy, open and self-contained.
