Brief introduction of flower picking festival

China is a country with 56 ethnic groups, and each ethnic group has its own festivals. Taking Tibetans as an example, the Flower Picking Festival is a traditional festival for Tibetans in Apollo, Nanping County.

The Flower-picking Festival, also known as Daughter's Day, is held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year for two days. Flower picking festival is a festival with national characteristics. It can be roughly divided into three parts: grabbing water, picking flowers and praying for blessings, among which picking flowers and praying for blessings are combined with national songs and dances. The festival begins with grabbing water.

On the morning of the fourth or fifth day of May, local people will rush to the nearby mountain spring to get water, drink it all with their hands, then scrub their faces and bodies with dew on flowers and plants, and then fold willow branches. People carry spring water, hold willow branches, recite scriptures and go home, offer holy water to the incense table, and insert willow branches on the doors and windows. After returning home, the whole family drank holy water and used it to wash and purify themselves. It is said that on this day, the fairy sprinkled a panacea on springs and flowers. Drinking spring water before sunrise can dispel diseases and strengthen the body, bathing will bring good luck, and inserting willows can ward off evil spirits.

There are also a series of legends in the Flower Festival, which represent people's wishes for blessings. After the blessing ceremony, anyone can perform, dance and show their talents. Folk songs, rap, modern dance and pop songs were played in turn, and the hut became a sea of joy and a world of singing and dancing.

During the flower picking festival, Tibetans lingered in this big gathering and were reluctant to leave for a long time. It has also been passed down to this day.
