History of the Internet

The development of Internet (Internet) in China can be roughly divided into three stages:

The first stage is 1987-1993, which is also the research and experimentation stage. During this period, some Chinese scientific research departments and institutions of higher learning began to study InternetInternet technology, and carried out scientific research projects and scientific and technological cooperation, but this stage of network applications are limited to a small range of e-mail services.

The second phase was from 1994 to 1996, also a start-up phase. in April 1994, the Zhongguancun Regional Education and Research Demonstration Network Project entered the Internet, and since then China has been officially recognized internationally as a country with Internet.

After that, Chinanet, CERnet, CSTnet, Chinagbnet and other Internet projects were launched nationwide, and the Internet began to enter the public life and gained rapid development in China. By the end of 1996, the number of Internet users in China had reached 200,000, and the number of businesses and applications utilizing the Internet gradually increased.

The third stage from 1997 to the present, is the Internet in China's fastest and most rapid stage. The number of domestic Internet users after 97 years basically maintain the growth rate doubled every six months. Growth to today, Internet users have more than 10 million.

According to the statistical report published by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), as of June 30, 2003, the total number of Internet users in China was 68 million. This figure is 8.9 million higher than that of the beginning of the year, and 22.2 million more than that of the same period in 2002, according to the statistical report released by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).

Expanded Information

The earliest origins of the Internet lie in ARPAnet, the predecessor of the U.S. Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which was put into operation in 1969. Thus, ARPAnet became the symbol of the birth of modern computer networks.

The history of the development of the Internet is from the 1950s to the 1990s, in the form of a chronicle, a detailed history of the Internet step by step towards maturity of the development process, compiled by the U.S. Department of Defense.

The 1950s

The Soviet Union launched Sputnik, mankind's first artificial Earth satellite, in 1957, in response to which the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) formed the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), which began applying science and technology to the military (:amk:).
