There is a folk legend of "bangs chopping wood". What is the significance of Liu Hai's drama?
It means that financial resources are rolling and happiness is perfect. There are many folk sculptures with the theme of "Liu Hai Xi Jin Chan" in Changde, and one of them is a bamboo carving pen holder (Figure 368). The height 14.5cm, diameter 9.3cm and base diameter 9. 1cm of the pen are slightly oblate. On one side of the pen container, Liu Hai, a barefoot fairy with bare chest and smiling face, is waving a rope wearing copper coins and bending down to tease a three-legged golden toad. The knife work is concise, the layout is good, and it is very vivid.
On the other side of the pen holder, the word "Lu" of an ancient official is engraved. Below it, there are four lines engraved in the script: "Not for profit, but for righteousness." "Years old, Yu Ting", with a single box printed "Zhao" under it. This pen container should have been made in the eighth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1869). The golden toad has a beautiful legend in ancient China mythology, so even in modern times, it is regarded as an auspicious animal with auspicious significance.
Smart craftsmen have created many classic shapes according to various legends, and the golden toad in Liu Hai's opera is one of them. So what are the allusions of Jin Chan in Liu Hai's operas that we often hear? There is a legend circulating in Huxian County, Xi City, Shaanxi Province. In Qubao Village, Huxian County, there lived a young man named Liu Hai. He was born in poverty and lived by collecting firewood. He also has a blind old mother to support, but he is diligent and takes good care of her. Although he is poor, his life is full of warmth.
On the way to chopping wood, Liu Hai often takes pleasure in teasing the golden toad. This golden toad is very different from ordinary golden toad, but it is actually a three-legged golden toad. Liu Hai often smiles with it and doesn't want to leave. ? Later, on the mountain of Liu Hai, I met a beautiful woman named Meigu and married her. Since then, the life of the Liu Hai family has been happier.
One day, Liu Hai went up the mountain to cut firewood as usual, only to find that the golden toad on the roadside was gone. When he was puzzled, a Taoist called his wife a fox and told him how to see through the fox. When Liu Hai came back, he found that his wife was actually a fox, but Liu Hai's wife saw through the Taoist priest's attempt.
It turns out that the Taoist priest is a three-legged golden toad, who often laughs with Liu Hai. He wants to destroy Liu Hai's beautiful marriage, take away the beauty aunt's treasure, and then become immortal. Liu Hai and Mei Gu played along, pretending to give away the treasure, but taking advantage of Jin Chan's surprise, they snatched it away. The golden cicada lost its treasure and had to follow Liu Hai.
