The main distribution areas of sea and river boats in the Song Dynasty

I. Distributed areas:

1. Sea ships were mainly distributed in the provinces near the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea, mainly including: Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Hainan and so on.

2. Inland waterway vessels are mainly distributed in provinces along the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, such as: the two lakes, Jiangxi, Anhui, and the provinces of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

Second, the concept: the sea ship refers to a strong resistance to wind and waves, suitable for navigation in deeper waters of the ship; riverboat refers to navigation in the river transportation vessels.

Three, the difference between the two:

1. The sea is windy and high waves, the voyage distance is far, the sea ship can be built to hundreds of thousands of tons of large, inland waterway ships not big.

2. The sea ship encountered more opportunities for big waves, small and medium-sized hull using garden bilge type, while the river ships are generally flat bottom.

3. The wind in the river is small, the superstructure of the river ships can be built relatively high. There are many bends in the river, the turning radius of the river boat berth is small, and the maneuvering flexibility is higher than that of the sea boat.
