The Forbidden City of Beijing is a royal palace in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, formerly known as the Forbidden City, located in the center of the central axis of Beijing. Centered on the Three Great Halls, the Forbidden City of Beijing covers an area of about 720,000 square meters, with a floor area of about 150,000 square meters, more than seventy palaces of various sizes and more than 9,000 houses.

Construction of the Forbidden City began in the fourth year of the reign of Emperor Chengzu Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1406), using the Nanjing Imperial Palace as a blueprint, and was completed in the 18th year of the reign of Emperor Yongle (1420), making it the palace of 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The buildings in the Forbidden City in Beijing are divided into two parts: the outer court and the inner court. The left and right wings of the Three Great Halls are supplemented by two groups of buildings, the Hall of Wenhua and the Hall of Wuying.
