What is the printing and dyeing process?

Printing and dyeing is a kind of relief printing, which appeared in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and was very mature in the Han Dynasty. It is carved into a prominent pattern on the wall, and then the dye is printed on the fabric. Several pieces of printed colored yarn unearthed from the tomb of the Western Han Dynasty in Mawangdui, Changsha, were printed and dyed in this way, as well as by hand. The patterns are mostly angular. Generally, the skeletons of branches and vines are embossed first, then the stamens, flowers and leaves are drawn by hand, and then dyed.
