History of the land in front of Yapojing
According to legend, in the Ming Dynasty, a mother-in-law built a pool to store mountain springs for residents to drink, so she called this pool Yapojing. Yapojing means mountain spring in Portuguese, so this place was once one of the pools in Macao. Where there are wells, people live, and the early Portuguese in Macao lived here, so it is one of the oldest residential areas. Macao's former Portuguese folk song said: "If you drink Yapu's well, you will never forget Macao;" Either get married in Macao or never come back. "
In order to preserve the cultural characteristics of this area, the Australian and Portuguese governments have carried out a series of reconstruction projects, including retaining two century-old banyan trees in the area in front of Yapojing, adding classical street lamps and paving the stone pavement with marble. The renovation project was completed on June 1996, leaving behind the European style of the buildings in front of Yapojing and nearby buildings.
