How to draw characters in European and American style comics

European painting inherits the traditional painting techniques and attaches importance to the expression of facial bones and muscles. This style of painting is most prominent in European and American fantasy and Hong Kong comics. Japanese painting greatly simplifies the bones and muscles of the face and only shows the characteristics of the five senses.

This style of painting is most prominent in early Japanese comics and girl comics. Nowadays, most mainstream cartoonists will give consideration to both forms of expression and will not be particularly biased towards one side (of course, some cartoonists have created their own painting style). In order to facilitate everyone's study, I will only introduce the characteristics of mainstream painting style in the future. The "male face" and "female face" of a male character (male and female here refer to the characteristic tendency of the face, which has nothing to do with the gender of the role);

1, the male face is very prominent on the brow bone and cheekbone, and the eye socket is deep, while the female face can hardly see the brow bone, cheekbone and eye socket.

2. In the occlusal muscle part, the male face has obvious angles, generally obtuse or right-angled, depending on the face shape, the female face has soft angles, generally curved.

3. The mandibular floor of male face is usually flat, while the mandibular floor of female face is pointed.

In fact, middle-aged men or particularly strong young men will use the standard "male face". Generally, young men and handsome men tend to have a "female face" more or less, while most real female characters will adopt a strong style of painting with female characteristics.
