Xiangtan which province

Xiangtan, nicknamed "Lotus City" because of its abundance of Xianglian, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, China, located in the east-central part of Hunan Province, in the lower basin of the Xiangjiang River. It is now under the jurisdiction of Yutang, Yuhu 2 municipal districts, Xiangtan 1 county, Xiangxiang, Shaoshan 2 county-level cities, with a total area of 5015 square kilometers, is the smallest prefecture-level city in Hunan province, with a total population of 2.92 million people, listed in the 12th of the 14 municipalities and states in Hunan province. Xiangtan is home to many famous people such as Qi Baishi, Mao Zedong, Peng Dehuai and Ma Ying-jeou, as well as a unique cultural tradition because of its origins as the birthplace of the Hunan School and the Hunan Army.

Xiangtan City, in the narrow sense of the term, refers to the "Xiangtan City District", which was built on the foundation of Xiangtan County after the Southern Song Dynasty, and once flourished as a commercial town "the giant of China's inland commercial ports". Now includes Yutang, Yuhu 2 districts, with a total area of 279 square kilometers, of which the built-up area of 76 square kilometers; a total population of 720,000 people, of which 570,000 non-agricultural population, the fifth largest city in Hunan Province. The comprehensive strength of the city is listed in the National Bureau of Statistics in 2006 version of China's top 100 cities 83rd, Hunan Province, the third. It is a part of the ChangZhuTan city cluster, and was approved as the National Experimental Area for Comprehensive Complementary Reform of Resource Saving and Environmentally Friendly Society Construction in 2007.
