Weifang Institute of Science and Technology is public. Weifang Institute of Science and Technology is a full-time application-oriented undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Shouguang Municipal People's Government. It is a pilot college in Weifang National Vocational Education Innovation and Development Experimental Zone, a pilot college for directional training of non-commissioned officers, a construction unit for master's degree awarding projects, and the first batch of supporting universities for application-oriented undergraduate colleges in Shandong Province.

The school now has five departments, namely, Department of Agronomy and Environment, Department of Economic Management, Department of Mechanical and Electrical Information, Department of Architectural Art and Department of General Education, and there are four secondary colleges, namely, College of Agronomy and Environment, College of Intelligent Manufacturing, College of Economic Management, College of Architectural Art, College of General Education, College of Teacher Education and College of Nursing.
