Wei Wei was born on September 28, 1963 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, and showed her talent for singing and dancing at the age of 4. She learned singing skills from her teacher at the age of 6, and began her training in dance performance at the age of 8. She took part in the National Singing Competition held in Wuhan in 1985, and was chosen to be one of the 12 stars of the singing world in China.

In 1986, she took part in the Second CCTV National Young Singers Television Grand Prix and won the second place in the professional group of popular singing and made her official debut; on May 10th, she participated in the commemoration of the International Year of Peace, initiated and organized the first 100 Singers Concert, and served as one of the leading singers of the theme song "Let the world be full of love"; she became a national-level actor in the same year.
