In A.D. 1705 (forty-four years of Kangxi), Jianchingchuan was built in Hanyang Prefecture, and its courtyard was located in Jimen, south of Hanyang City. 1742 (the seventh year of Qianlong), the site was abandoned and expanded. 1799 (the fourth year of Jiaqing), the magistrate of a county used the surplus of relief money to buy Zhang Zhai to rebuild the college, and Qingchuan College moved to Xueyuan West (now the former site of Wuhan No.3 Middle School). Liu Bin personally inscribed "Qingchuan Academy".
1852 (the second year of Xianfeng), the Taiping Army attacked Hanyang and the Academy was destroyed by fire. 1865 (four years of Tongzhi), the county magistrate led his entourage to raise funds for reconstruction. At this time, the Academy and Fengshan Academy located at the foot of Fengqi Mountain have hundreds of members. The academy follows the discipline system of famous schools such as Bailuyuan, with rigorous scholarship and strict rewards and punishments. Many students become famous by giving exams.
Under the historical conditions at that time, the scale of Qingchuan Academy was quite large. According to the records of Qiu Xingnu, the magistrate of Hanyang County, when he rebuilt Qingchuan Academy, the Academy "has a worship door in the south of the building, and the entrance is Wugong Academy. Yanbei is the second gate, and the courtyard inside the gate is half an acre wide. Further north is the lecture hall, which is spacious and magnificent. There is a long list of things that students have to do. From the lobby to the north, it is the lobby, and then the south building. There is a small yard and a gallery. Further north is the second hall, and there are lecture seats on the mountain. Then three halls, then blisters, across the backyard. After the lecture hall, there is a hut from the west to the southwest of the lecture hall. There is a shrine in the hut as the terrace of the laurel tree. Its name is Qingchuan, and this Cui Shizhen is also. "
After the Opium War, China society changed rapidly from feudal society to semi-feudal and semi-colonial. With the invasion of western culture, the country was in danger. Many people of insight called for the abolition of the imperial examination and the development of schools to educate the country. 1903 (the 29th year of Guangxu), the Qing government promulgated the "Music School Charter" to establish a modern education system, and the academies in Hanyang were transformed into new schools. Qingchuan Academy was transformed into "the front hall of Hanyang Middle School", and Fengshan Academy was transformed into "the back hall of Hanyang Middle School" with more than 300 boys. The academic system was initially set at four years, then changed to five years, and courses were offered according to the idea of "taking middle school as the body and western learning as the use". However, modern schools that have just come out of feudal academies still have a lot of feudal teaching contents, and the proportion of class hours between classics and Taoism is still very large. Of course, there are also courses such as arithmetic, history, geography, foreign languages, gymnastics, painting and handicrafts.
1904, Hanyangfu Middle School and Hanyangfu Normal School were established in the front yard of Hanyang Middle School. At this point, Qingchuan Academy completed the transformation to a new school, which lasted nearly 200 years. Later, it took another hundred years to evolve from modern schools to modern middle schools. When we say "the third middle school in a hundred years", we naturally mean the course after the emergence of the school. If we say its profound origin, we should mention 300 years.
