Which place in China is known as the 'Hometown of Longevity'?
The criterion for determining the "Hometown of Longevity" in China is to have 3 centenarians per 100,000 population. In fact, Rugao, Jiangsu Province, Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, and Bama, Guangxi Province, three of China's six longevity townships (the other three are Leshan, Sichuan Province, Xinglong Village, Liaoyang, Liaoning Province, and Karamay, Xinjiang Province), have exceeded the United Nations' criterion for longevity townships, which is 7.5 centenarians per 100,000 people.
Currently, Rugao, Jiangsu Province, has 209 centenarians, with a total population of 1.45 million, making it the county-level city with the largest number of centenarians in China; Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, has 71 people over 100 years old; and Bama, Guangxi Province, was declared the "Hometown of Longevity of the World" by the International Society of Natural Medicine in the 1990s. Now there are 78 centenarians.
