What is the origin of the traditional Chinese festival Dragon Boat Festival?
In memory of the historical figure Qu Yuan.
In his early years, Qu Yuan was a poet and politician of Chu State during the Warring States Period. He hoped that Chu State would be prosperous and strong and put forward many ideas. However, he was attacked and slandered by his political opponents and was exiled by the King of Chu.
Later, the state of Chu declined. Qu Yuan was extremely sad and angry and committed suicide by jumping into the Miluo River.
In order to commemorate Qu Yuan, the Dragon Boat Festival was born.
