Shang Yang, born and died from 395 BC to 338 BC, was a native of Wei (now Liangzhuang Town, Neihuang County, Anyang City, Henan Province), a descendant of Wei, and a famous politician, reformer, thinker and strategist during the Warring States Period.

Shang Yang made Qin rich and strong through political reform, which is called "Shang Yang's political reform" in history. Shang Yang carried out political reforms on household registration, rank, land system, administrative divisions, taxation, weights and measures, folk customs, etc., and formulated harsh laws. Economically, Shang Yang advocated attaching importance to agriculture and restraining commerce, and rewarding agriculture and weaving. Militarily, Qin Jun, commander-in-chief of Shang Yang, recovered Hexi.

Shangyang tomb

Shang Yang's Tomb, also known as Shang Jun's Tomb. After Shang Yang's car was cracked, later legalists collected Shang Yang's bones and prepared to smuggle them back to his hometown of Weiguo for burial. They were stopped by the defenders of the State of Qin at the Defeng Ferry of the Yellow River, and the locals and defenders hurriedly buried Shang Yang's bones at the foot of the nearby Qin Yi Mountain. Shang Jun's Tomb is located at the foot of Qin Yi Mountain, a scenic spot in Qiachuan Town, 23km east of Heyang County, Shaanxi Province. The tomb is more than three meters high and more than ten meters in diameter. 1970, when a PLA unit was building a barracks here, Shang Jun's tomb was razed to the ground.
