What's so particular about Shangliang?

When breaking ground, the carpenter should choose a cedar as a "beam"; Masons should build a stone engraved with the word "Shi Gandang" on the pedestal, and some elders also engraved "Jiang Taigong is here" to ward off evil spirits and eliminate disasters.

On the day of "Liang Shang", there are many rules. The so-called "upper beam" is to put purlin (because it is located in the middle of the whole wooden structure of the house, it is usually called as a respectful name.

It is called a "beam") from the ground to the roof. On the morning of the same day, window frames and door frames were pasted with "Auspicious Window" and "Auspicious Door", two opposite pillars of the main roof truss were pasted with couplets of "Liang Jixiang", and both sides of the lower center of the beam were pasted with "Liang Jixiang". A pair of red chopsticks are placed on both sides of the center above the beam, and a copper coin is embedded in the middle of each pair of red chopsticks (that is, chopsticks hold money), and the copper coin holes are respectively pierced with red lines. There is also a red rope with seven copper coins on it, the lower end of which is decorated with colored silk, hanging below the center of the beam, surrounded by red lines on both sides and tied to the copper coin hole between the two pairs of red chopsticks above the beam. Because "chopsticks" and "fast" are homophonic, it is a metaphor for "making money quickly", that is, making a fortune.

On both sides of "Shangliang Daji", there are red and green silks and satins presented by her family and close relatives. Lions presented by her family stood on both sides of the door, wearing peaches on their heads. Pasta gifts from relatives and friends, congratulations, are placed in front of the main house. At noon, the elders of the main family lead their descendants to light candles and burn incense, which is called "worshipping the beam". Then, the bricklayer and carpenter foreman boarded the roof with a "half bucket" full of cupcakes, sweets, wine and red envelopes, and symbolically took a sip of wine, meaning that "you will live to ninety-nine after drinking the wine from Shangliang". Then, they poured wine on the tenon hole of the column, and with a cry, "It's time to beam-",firecrackers exploded and the beam was jubilant.
